As the costs of hospitalization mount daily, many doctors have established suites for cosmetic surgery in their own offices. They can save the patient up to 2,000 dollars – a considerable sum, because almost no cosmetic surgery is covered by hospital insurance. The American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons inspects these suites and approves them. Going to one that’s unapproved may be risky.
Responding to escalating demand, plastic surgery “factories” have sprung up across the nation, advertising in newspapers and on TV that you can be beautiful at low cost. Many of the doctors working at such places have not been fully trained to do the delicate operations. Remember: A licensed M.D. is not necessarily trained to perform plastic surgery.
So check that the doctor has been qualified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Also, does he or she regularly perform the procedure you desire? If the answer to both questions is yes, then you can allow the surgeon to remake that part of your body.
