Gather the ripe berries of the wild rose, the hips, and spread them out to mellow in a dry shady place. Make sure they are not piled up on top of each other in the box or basket, otherwise they will go mouldy, rather than overripe. When they are nice and soft, put them through a mincer to obtain a thick red puree. Use a wooden spoon to rub the mash through a sieve in order to separate the little seeds. A red paste will come through the sieve and can be scraped off with a knife or spoon. This paste, rich in vitamin C, should now be mixed with half the quantity of honey or grape sugar (the consistency of honey). That is all there is to it! Although uncooked, the mixture will keep well, preferably in the refrigerator. It is wholesome and delicious. A teaspoonful a day will provide the daily requirement of vitamin ? and can help a hard-working person more than any of the commercially manufactured vitamin ? tablets.
